POV
Our version of A Year with Frog and Toad wants to walk the line between feeling realistic for the most part, while still having elements of spectacle that feel fantastical. Being that this show takes place over the course of four seasons, we plan to use color as a means of denoting season, where warmer tones correlate to summer and fall, and cooler tones correlate to winter and spring. This show also takes place in a wide array of locations, so we want to also use light to encode where each scene is taking place. Thus, we will have LED stained glass gobos that can project onto sheets of white plastic that will only be on while in their houses, and fade into the background when we are not. Additionally, we want to be able to play with the liveliness of the music, so we will have 2 sets of marquee lights, one per house, that will allow various effects, depending on what a song or scene may call for, to as to have playful lighting that doesn’t distract from the realism. Finally, being that this is a production aimed at young audiences, we want to create an environment that always feel safe; although there are scarier moments, we never want to drift too far away from a cozy atmosphere because we want to drive home the idea that where there is friendship, there is security.
